Diction sets the tone for any story. The author can use certain word choice to change the overall feeling of the argument. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain used low diction to get the location and social class across to his readers. John F. Kennedy also paid close attention to diction when creating his inaugural speech. He used abstract words to convey his message with out saying something specific that could have been used against him for not being carried out in the future. Though his speach creates a well educated persona, JFK spoke using everyday language so he would appear to be down to earth. Writing about tone would envolve diction of the same level as the tone that is being written about. The use of diction will inform the reader about who it was directed to, what the passage was about and what the attitude was towards it.
